Frequently Asked Questions

What transportation is included in the monthly fee?
Scheduled trips to doctor’s appointments, local churches, grocery shopping, cultural events in the city (symphony, playhouse, opera, etc.), day trips and shopping malls are included in the fee.

Do you have guest rooms? What is the cost?
We have two guest rooms. $50/night for one person and $60/night for two or more persons.

What is a “continuum of care”?
This refers to the various levels of health care a resident may need throughout his/her lifetime. These levels range from residential living (where a resident needs no assistance or very minimal assistance), to assisted living (where a resident needs assistance with bathing, dressing and medications) to skilled nursing care (requiring medical care or rehabilitation). Access to all levels of the continuum is provided at no additional fee (although fees may rise annually to reflect higher operating costs and inflation). Residents are able to transfer between levels of care as their condition warrants.

Are pets allowed in apartments/homes?
Yes, but not in any of the common areas. Members are expected to be responsible pet owners.

If I have a long term care insurance policy, will I need to continue the premiums when I move to Longwood?
Once you move to Longwood, a long term care insurance policy may no longer be needed. Do not cancel this policy until we have had a conversation about the benefits of these policies and you have physically moved into the community. Sometimes the benefits outweigh the costs.

Does Longwood have a waiting list?
Yes. Longwood keeps a list of Priority Club Members who are waiting for specific types of accommodations to become available. Priority Club members are called in order of their date of deposit as accommodations become available. The larger apartments have the longest wait.

How many meals are included in the monthly maintenance fee?
One meal per day, either lunch or dinner in a choice of three dining rooms.

What are the federal income tax benefits for CCRC members?
As a member, a portion of the fees paid to the community are attributable toward medical expenses. The IRS has ruled it is appropriate for a CCRC to determine the amount of deductibility based on the medical expenses of the community. The final decision to take the deduction should be made by the member or his/her tax advisor.

What are the application requirements?
A medical review by your physician, a mini-mental assessment at Longwood, a financial review and a $1000 fully refundable deposit are required.
