Activities
Longwood has extensive activity programs designed to meet the physical, intellectual, creative and spiritual needs of our residents. The wide variety of programming is tailored to enhance and promote independence and personal choice.
Fitness is a priority in adding years to your life. Imagine aquatic exercise classes each morning in our indoor swimming pool or meeting with our fitness trainer in the well-equipped fitness room. You could benefit from exercise classes, line dancing and tai chi or participate in games of shuffleboard, bocce and croquet.

Our educational enrichment program features lecturers who present stimulating topics of interest throughout the year. Guest speakers have enriched residents with subjects regarding botanical gardens, archaeology and historic preservation, how to prevent identity theft and a visit by the first woman in Pennsylvania’s history to be presidentially appointed to the position of U.S. Attorney. Lifelong learning classes are offered on many current affair topics, as well as topics in the social and physical sciences.
Local talented artists offer musical entertainment bi-monthly. Other activities that residents enjoy:
- Bridge, 500, Gin Rummy
- Computers with Internet access
- Painting with watercolors
- Tennis
- Putting Green
- Overnight Excursions
- Annual Cruise
- Seasonal Events and Parties
- Volunteer Opportunities
- Annual Art Show
- Women’s and Men’s Chorus
Spiritual activities offer weekly religious studies led by our Chaplain, a mid-week Chapel service and an interdenominational Vesper service each Sunday evening. Weekly worship services are also held in our Assisted Living Center, Health Care Center and Woodside. Weekly transportation to local churches is provided.
Additionally, Longwood has an active Stephen Ministry team. This program trains lay persons (Longwood residents) to do a one-on-one care ministry with individuals (other Longwood residents) who are experiencing a crisis in their lives or are in need of additional ministering.
The Resident’s Association, of which all residents are members, is one of the dynamic aspects of our community. It is self-governing and provides countless opportunities for residents to organize and participate on a variety of committees. Officers are elected annually and the president and vice president serve on the Longwood Board of Directors.
