An active plan of the day

Living it up in Pittsburgh’s premier LifeCare community

%%4%%It’s your day. Spend it the way you like it: relaxing at home, plunging into community programs or exploring Pittsburgh. As a leading LifeCare community, we not only want to ease your concerns about long-term care; we want you to have a stimulating, fulfilling choice of activities that touch every facet of your life—body, mind and spirit.

Start your morning with aquatic exercise classes in our indoor swimming pool or meeting with our fitness trainer in the magnificently equipped fitness room. Get your heart pumping with line dancing, stretch and meditate with tai chi or relax in a game of shuffleboard, bocce or croquet.

Plan to hear one of the fascinating guest speakers who come here regularly, covering a sweeping range of topics, from botanical gardens, archaeology and historic preservation to how to prevent identity theft. We’ve even had a visit by the first woman in Pennsylvania’s history to be presidentially appointed to the position of U.S. Attorney. Local talented artists offer musical entertainment bi-monthly. Other activities that residents enjoy:

  • Bridge, 500, Gin Rummy
  • Computers with Internet access
  • Painting with watercolors
  • Tennis
  • Putting Green
  • Overnight Excursions
  • Annual Cruise
  • Seasonal Events and Parties
  • Volunteer Opportunities
  • Annual Art Show
  • Women’s and Men’s Chorus

Spiritual activities include weekly religious studies led by our Chaplain, a mid-week Chapel service and an interdenominational Vesper service each Sunday evening. We hold weekly worship services in our Personal Care Center, Health Care Center and Woodside. We also provide weekly transportation to local churches.

Additionally, Longwood has an active Stephen Ministry team. This program trains lay persons (Longwood residents) to do a one-on-one care ministry with other Longwood residents who are experiencing a crisis in their lives or are in need of additional ministering.

You’re automatically a member of The Resident’s Association, and that’s your invitation to get involved in the organization and direction of community life. Ask about our many committees and countless opportunities to serve.
Of course, you always have the other choice, too: Settle back in your easy chair, open a good book and enjoy the private quiet of your beautiful residence. Here, you can be as active or as laid back as you please.
